Did you know that your makeup can be aging you? The same tips and routines we used in our 20s and 30s might not be the way to go in our 40’s and 50’s! While there are always exceptions to the rules (depending on your age, skin tone, lifestyle etc) here are some safe tips that are good for anyone and everyone who is on the mature side.
Wearing dark lipstick, especially with blue undertones, can make your lips look small and cold. When you are picking a lipstick, make sure you are picking something with a color that works for your skin tone and make sure it pops! Need help? Go to any Sephora or makeup counter and ask for their opinion!
Who doesn’t love shimmer? Well as we age, shimmer might not love you back. Luminous highlighters or blushes can settle into any fine lines, wrinkles or creases and highlight your imperfections. Try setting your makeup with a hydrating mist to keep a natural glow without any shimmer. Also, stay away from frosted lipsticks and keep the shimmer off the eyes! Glittery or shiny eyeshadows or eyeshadow creams can age your eyes. It minimizes contouring of the face and puts your wrinkles on display! Try matte shadows to define the crease and keep the shimmer under control and to a minimum. If you are unsure of how to use glitter and shimmer the proper way, head on over to Sephora! There are makeup artists there to help you and guide you on how to use shimmer and glitter the right way that makes your eyes pop – not your wrinkles! Try using a natural looking highlighter on the inner corner of the eye. This will make your eyes POP-especially in photos!
Brows are so important – they frame your face! Are you losing your eyebrows? Are you sick of filling them in? You might be filling them in too dark and too strong! This is a huge NO-NO! Harsh eyebrows can distract people and take away from your eyes and facial structure. Your eyebrows are super important but they should never be the main event!
